Sunny weather to persist across Iraq with temperatures holding steady

BAGHDAD — Sunny weather will continue across Iraq through Friday, with temperatures holding largely steady before rising slightly on Saturday, the Iraqi Meteorological Organization said.

Wednesday will be clear across most of the country, with some clouds in the north, and temperatures dipping slightly before stabilizing Thursday and Friday. Highs Wednesday range from 38 °C in Duhok, 40 °C in Sulaymaniyah and 41 °C in Nineveh to 44 °C in Baghdad, 45 °C in Najaf and Dhi Qar and 46 °C in Basra and Maysan.

Sunny conditions hold Thursday and Friday with little change, before a slight rise nationwide Saturday. Northwesterly winds of 20 to 30 km/h are expected across central and southern Iraq, with lighter variable winds in the north and visibility of 6 to 8 km.

By Tuesday, skies stay clear under a seasonal low-pressure system with hot to very hot conditions, and highs reaching 47 °C in Basra and Maysan, 46 °C in Karbala, Najaf and Dhi Qar and 45 °C in Baghdad and Wasit. Winds gust to about 50 km/h in parts of the south and eastern central region, raising dust in desert areas and along highways.
