Anbar provincial council elects Omar Mishan Dabbous as governor
RAMADI — Anbar’s Provincial Council on Monday unanimously elected Omar Mishan Dabbous, a member of the Taqaddum party, as governor, with the newly appointed official pledging a shift toward development-focused governance, investment attraction and improved services.
Speaking at a news conference after the vote, Dabbous described taking office as “a clear contract with our people based on honesty in words, seriousness in work and justice in decision-making.”
“Anbar governorate represents a title of pride and a national reservoir of values, and our acceptance of the first executive responsibility is a clear contract with our people based on honesty in words, seriousness in work and justice in decision-making,” he said.
Dabbous said the administration’s approach “will be based on a firm principle whose foundation is service,” adding it will work “with a team spirit and openness to all energies and competencies without exclusion or discrimination.” He stressed “the importance of a genuine partnership between the local government and society, and between political decision-making and the service and development reality.”
He said the coming phase will prioritize security, political stability and social peace, while seeking to “provide an attractive environment for investment in the industrial and agricultural sectors” to support job creation and improve living standards and services.
Dabbous said “the new vision is based on long-term planning and the efficient use of Anbar’s human and natural resources,” adding that “Anbar will remain strong through its people and protected by its security forces.”
He also praised the work of former governor Mohammed Nouri al-Karbouli, citing his service during previous challenges.
Dabbous is a civil engineer from Ramadi and a graduate of Anbar University. He began his career in 2005 with the Ministry of Municipalities and Public Works and held multiple municipal and administrative roles in the governorate, including posts in planning and environment departments and as deputy director of municipalities. He most recently served as president of the Anbar Provincial Council.
