Electricity minister reviews progress of Gulf interconnection project

BAGHDAD, December 28 — Iraq’s Minister of Electricity, Ziad Ali Fadel, met with a delegation from the Gulf Interconnection Authority on Thursday to review progress of the Wafrah-Faw electricity transmission project and a plan to connect to power lines within Kuwait.

A statement from the Ministry of Electricity said:

Minister of Electricity Mr. Ziad Ali Fadel received a high-level delegation from the Gulf Interconnection Authority, headed by Mr. Mohammed Al-Sheikh, the Deputy CEO of the Authority, at his office.

The progress of work on the Wafrah-Faw transmission line and the implementation of connecting to lines within the state of Kuwait, extending to the Faw region in southern Iraq, were reviewed during the meeting.

Minister Fadel emphasized the importance of electrical interconnection with Gulf countries as a promising step towards achieving energy stability in Iraq. He explained that this collaboration between Iraq and its Gulf counterparts enhances the ability to meet citizens’ needs and promotes sustainable development in the electricity sector.

The Gulf Interconnection Authority delegation expressed gratitude for the significant attention from the Iraqi government and the Ministry of Electricity in overcoming all obstacles and facilitating the requirements for completing the work, including issuing the sovereign guarantee for electricity interconnection projects.
