Rain, mountain snow expected as Iraq sees mild temperature rise
BAGHDAD — Iraq is experiencing stable weather with a slight rise in temperatures, while localized rain is expected in the north and central regions and light snowfall in northern mountains over the coming days, the Iraqi Meteorological Organization said.
The agency said Wednesday would be clear across most regions, with partly cloudy skies and light to moderate rain in the north and eastern parts of the central region. Light snowfall is expected on mountain elevations in the far northeast. Dense fog may form in limited northern areas during the morning before clearing.
Temperatures will drop a few degrees from Tuesday, with cold to very cold conditions in the morning and at night and cool daytime hours. Winds will be northwesterly at 10 to 20 kilometers per hour. Visibility will range from 8 to 10 kilometers, dropping below 1 kilometer in fog.
Thursday will be clear to partly cloudy with a chance of light rain in the north and morning fog. Temperatures will hold steady with light, variable winds.
Friday brings partly cloudy to cloudy skies and southeasterly winds that may pick up in central and southern areas. Temperatures will rise slightly.
Saturday is expected to be cloudy nationwide with light to moderate rain and possible thunderstorms in most cities. Temperatures will hold in central and southern regions and fall a few degrees in the north.
Sunday calls for partly cloudy skies in central and northern regions with light to moderate rain and possible thunderstorms in eastern sections. Snow is expected on northern mountain heights. Morning fog in central and southern regions will gradually clear. Winds will shift from southeasterly to northwesterly in the afternoon, with temperatures near seasonal averages.
