Visibility improves as light rain expected in south

BAGHDAD — Iraq is expected to see gradually improving weather Thursday after recent instability, with skies clearing across central areas and the Kurdistan Region while parts of the south remain cloudy with chances of light rain, the meteorological authority said.

The General Authority for Meteorology said conditions in central Iraq and the Kurdistan Region will shift from partly cloudy to mostly clear, with scattered clouds lingering. Dense morning fog is expected in parts of the central region but is forecast to dissipate before noon.

In southern areas, including Basra, the authority said skies will remain partly to mostly cloudy with a chance of light showers. Rain may become heavier in Basra overnight.

Temperatures are expected to rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in central and southern Iraq and remain steady in the north. Winds will be light to moderate from the north and northwest at 10 to 20 kph in central and southern areas, while northern areas will see variable winds with occasional calm.

Visibility is forecast at 8 to 10 kilometers, dropping to 3 to 5 kilometers in morning haze and below 1 kilometer in areas affected by fog before improving around midday.
