Chamchamal declares closure of public institutions after floods

CHAMCHAMAL — Chamchamal district authorities, Sulaymaniyah Governorate, announced the suspension of official work at all government institutions, schools, universities, and educational centers on Wednesday, following floods that struck the district earlier in the day.

In a statement, the district administration said the decision was made “based on the authority granted to us and in response to today’s natural disaster.”

Emergency services, health departments, and essential public services will remain operational.

Earlier, the administration confirmed that two people died and four others were injured due to flooding caused by heavy rainfall. The statement also expressed condolences to the victims’ families and wished a swift recovery for the injured.

Several areas across the Kurdistan Region have been affected by continuous rainfall in recent days, resulting in both human and material losses.
