Baghdad police arrest woman accused of gold theft

BAGHDAD — Karkh police said Wednesday they arrested a woman accused of stealing gold jewelry from a Baghdad jeweler, recovered the stolen items and referred her to judicial authorities.

In a statement, Karkh Police Command said investigators from the Karkh Criminal Directorate “were able to arrest a suspect who stole gold jewelry from a jewelry shop in the Karkh side,” after gathering intelligence and analyzing evidence to identify the suspect and track her movements.

Police said the jewelry was seized in the operation and legal action has been initiated.

The department also released video showing a full security convoy dispatched to the woman’s home, then transporting her back to the shop for a crime-scene reenactment that retraced the steps of the theft.
