Kifri youth plant hundreds of trees to expand green spaces

KIFRI — Nearly 100 young volunteers in Kifri, a district within the autonomous administration of Garmiyan in Sulaymaniyah governorate, have spent the past three weeks planting trees along city streets as part of a local environmental campaign to expand green spaces.

Raouf Omar, one of the participants, told 964media, “For the past three weeks, nearly 100 young people from Kifri have joined this campaign. The saplings were provided by the Kifri Parks Department, the German aid organization, the district administration, and the municipality.”

According to Omar, the volunteers have so far planted about 600 trees along a three-kilometer stretch of road and plan to continue. “We will keep working to increase the green coverage in Kifri district,” he said.

The group aims to green 10 kilometers of city roads, a project that will require around 2,000 trees.

Omar added that their efforts go beyond tree planting. “Besides planting saplings, we’ve built irrigation pits for each one and regularly water them using a modern irrigation system,” he said.
