Interior Ministry denies reports of explosions at prosecutor’s home
BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Interior Ministry on Thursday denied social media reports claiming that two explosions targeted the home of the ministry’s public prosecutor, calling the information “false and baseless.”
“The news circulating on some social media platforms about two explosions targeting the home of the public prosecutor in the Ministry of Interior is false and has no basis in fact,” the ministry said in a statement. “We confirm that the public prosecutor continues to perform his duties normally, and his home has not been subjected to any incident.”
The ministry urged media outlets and social media users to verify information through official sources and to avoid spreading “malicious rumors that are punishable by law.”
Several social media accounts in Iraq had shared a video late Wednesday showing what appeared to be gunfire hitting a window, claiming it depicted an attack on the prosecutor’s house.
