KRG says 51,043 students admitted through Zankoline system for 2024–25
ERBIL — The Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research said Tuesday that 51,043 students have been admitted to universities and institutes across the region through this year’s Zankoline admission program.
According to ministry data, a total of 57,980 students graduated from grade 12 this year, including 42,257 from the scientific branch, 13,826 from the humanities branch, 1,327 from vocational schools, and 570 from international schools. Of these, 54,278 applied through the Zankoline system, and 50,826 were placed — representing 97% of applicants. Another 217 students from previous years were also admitted, bringing the total to 51,043.
The ministry said the remaining 1,378 students were not placed due to submission errors but will be allowed to reapply to fill 14,731 remaining university seats.
“Zankoline operated successfully today, and all grade 12 graduates who submitted their online university forms have now received their placements,” Minister of Higher Education Aram Mohammed Qadir told 964media.
Qadir added that universities are preparing to receive new students, though resources remain limited. “We have prepared for the new academic year, but unfortunately, not all requirements are complete. The situation is not at the level we wish, and we haven’t been able to construct new buildings,” he said.
He also noted that a portion of last year’s budget was used to cover student debts, but additional financial support would be needed this year.
