Man killed, three injured in Tuz Khurmatu shooting
SALAH AL-DIN — A man was killed and three others were injured Saturday in a shooting at a currency exchange in Tuz Khurmatu, officials said.
Ali Falah, head of the emergency department at Tuz Khurmatu General Hospital, told 964media that “as a result of the incident, which occurred at noon today, four injured people, including a child, were brought to our emergency department. All of them were wounded by gunfire. After initial treatment, one of the injured, a 30-year-old man, died due to the severity of his wounds. Two others were transferred to Azadi Hospital in Kirkuk because of their unstable condition.”
A source from the Iraqi National Security Service said the violence stemmed from a social dispute. According to the source, a man “opened fire on the owner of a money exchange office, leading to an exchange of gunfire. The office owner and two civilians were injured, while another person who had no connection to the dispute was hit and killed.”
Col. Hussein Ali, director of Khurmatu police, said the shooter fled toward Kirkuk. He added that security forces are pursuing the suspect and have coordinated with police in Kirkuk to apprehend him.
