Dhi Qar police arrest two for defacing election posters
DHI QAR — Dhi Qar Police announced the arrest of two individuals on Friday while they were defacing election campaign posters. The arrests were made during routine patrols by the Shamiyah Emergency Division.
The police said the arrests came “in order to reduce legal violations and implement the directives of the Dhi Qar Police Commander.”
According to the statement, patrol units “were able to arrest two suspects while they were vandalizing electoral campaign posters during their continuous tours.”
The Dhi Qar Police Command called on candidates affected by such acts to submit complaints, stating: “We urge all candidates whose campaign posters were damaged to file proper complaints so that legal action can be taken accordingly.”
Campaigning for Iraq’s upcoming parliamentary elections began Friday. The elections are scheduled to take place on Nov. 11.
Police did not provide details about the motive behind the vandalism.
