Relatives arrested in Tikrit in connection to killing of 26-year-old woman

SALAH AL-DIN — Security forces in Salah Al-Din governorate arrested suspects on Monday in connection with the killing of a 26-year-old woman in the Al-Qasiyah neighborhood north of Tikrit, according to a police source.

The suspects, identified as the woman’s relatives, allegedly carried out the killing on the pretext of “honor,” the source told 964media. They were referred for investigation following their arrest.

Police discovered the woman’s body buried in Al-Mahzam village, also located north of Tikrit. The source said the report was received at 9 a.m. about a murder in Al-Qasiyah.

Forces from Salah Al-Din Police Command responded, and after an investigation, authorities determined the motive to be related to an “honor” incident. Legal proceedings are ongoing.

In Iraq, honor crimes continue to be a pressing concern nationwide.
