Iraqi traveler arrested for attempting to smuggle drugs at Shalamja border crossing
BASRA, October 31 — The Border Ports Authority announced on Tuesday that they had apprehended an Iraqi traveler attempting to smuggle narcotics at the Shalamja border crossing in southern Iraq.
A statement released by the authority said:
The Border Ports Authority at the Shalamja border crossing has successfully apprehended an Iraqi traveler and seized 380 grams of the narcotic substance crystal and 60 grams of hashish in his possession, along with drug paraphernalia concealed inside a loudspeaker.
The arrest operation was carried out by our department personnel in collaboration with the National Intelligence Agency and the Customs Police as part of a failed attempt to smuggle the contraband into the country.
An official report was prepared, and the suspect and the seized items were handed over to the Shalamja Customs Police Center for appropriate legal procedures.
