UN special representative and Kuwaiti foreign minister discuss Iraq-Kuwait maritime borders
BAGHDAD, October 30 — The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Iraq, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, met with the Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Salem Al-Sabah on Sunday, to discuss demarcation of the shared maritime borders between Iraq and Kuwait, as well as the issue of Kuwaiti prisoners and missing persons.
The Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry released a statement to its official website in Arabic, a translation of which is provided below:
His Excellency Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, received Her Excellency Ms. Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Iraq and the head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI). This meeting took place in the afternoon on Sunday, October 29, 2023, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kuwait during her official visit to the country. The meeting included discussions on the latest developments related to the search for the remains of Kuwaiti prisoners and missing persons, as well as Kuwaiti properties, including the Kuwaiti National Archive. Additionally, they discussed the activities carried out by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq. The meeting also addressed the completion of the demarcation of the Kuwaiti-Iraqi maritime borders beyond Milestone 162.
