Two suspects arrested

Two killed, one wounded in Halabja shooting

HALABJA — Two young men were killed and another injured early Tuesday in a shooting outside their home in the Fermanbaran neighborhood of Halabja governorate, according to local police.

The victims, identified as Shakar Jaza, 20, and Shko Mohammed, 21, were sitting outside when a gunman on a motorcycle opened fire with a pistol. A third man, 31, was wounded in the attack.

“The attacker came on a motorcycle and opened fire on the victims with a handgun,” police spokesperson Akam Qutbaddin said at a press conference.

Surveillance footage from the scene has been obtained, and police said two suspects have been arrested in connection with the shooting. Both individuals were previously known to have disputes with the victims, Qutbaddin added.

Authorities said the suspects were detained under Article 406 of the Penal Code on the order of the investigating judge. A team has been assigned to lead the investigation.
