Two brothers feared drowned in Dujail as residents search in absence of rescue teams

SALAH AL-DIN — Two brothers are missing and feared drowned after entering a water source in Salah al-Din’s Dujail district on Monday, according to local officials and eyewitnesses.

Ali Jawdat, head of media for the Dujail district administration, told 964media the incident occurred after 1 p.m. at a popular local site where residents often gather to swim. “Today, like other days, the two brothers entered the water. One appeared to be in distress, and the older brother went in after him,” he said. “Neither of them resurfaced.”

The missing brothers were identified as Mahdi Rasool and Kazem Rasool, aged between 15 and 20. They were students and residents of Dujail, according to district officials.

Jawdat said the town has no local water rescue team, and divers were called in from the provincial capital, Tikrit. Until their arrival, residents continued to search the site on their own.
