Hot, dry weather persists across Iraq as Basra set to hit 50°C
BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Meteorological Authority reported on Saturday that a surface thermal low accompanied by a dry air mass continues to affect the country’s weather, resulting in hot to very hot summer conditions across all regions with mostly clear skies.
According to the daily bulletin, temperatures are expected to be similar to Friday’s readings, with a slight increase anticipated in some southern and western cities, temperatures in Basra are forecast to reach 50 degrees Celsius.
Winds will be northwesterly, light to moderate, with speeds ranging from 10 to 20 kph. These may intensify during the day in southern and western areas, potentially causing light to moderate dust, particularly in open and desert regions.
Horizontal visibility is expected to range between 8 and 10 kilometers in most areas, decreasing to 5 to 7 kilometers where dust is present.
