Suspects arrested

Two killed in separate stabbings in Najaf and Fallujah

NAJAF — Two men were killed in separate stabbing incidents on Saturday in Najaf and Fallujah, with police in both cities arresting suspects shortly after the attacks.

In Najaf, a man was fatally stabbed near the Zahraa overpasses in the Maysan neighborhood following a personal dispute. Police said the suspect was apprehended shortly after the incident and confessed during questioning, citing a prior conflict with the victim. Authorities confirmed his statement was officially recorded, and he has been referred to the judiciary for legal proceedings.

A special security team was formed to investigate the case. “The Police Command reaffirms its continued efforts to pursue anyone who threatens public safety and stresses that the law will reach anyone who endangers the lives of others,” police said in a statement.

In Fallujah, in Iraq’s Anbar governorate, two suspects were arrested after a deadly altercation on Sadd Street near the Olive Branch Restaurant. Witnesses told 964media that a verbal argument escalated into a physical confrontation, ending in a fatal stabbing.

Criminal investigation units in Fallujah moved to arrest the suspects before they could flee the area. They were taken into custody for questioning, and an investigation is ongoing to determine the motive and full circumstances of the attack.
