Maysan security forces arrest five accused of targeting Qi Card centers and homes

MAYSAN — Security forces in Maysan arrested a five-member gang on Wednesday accused of stealing from Qi Card service centers and burglarizing civilian homes, according to a statement from Samawah police.

The arrests came after a targeted operation by the Intelligence Agency’s Falcons Cell, acting on judicial orders. Authorities described the operation as “accurate and swift,” resulting in the detention of all five suspects.

During interrogation, the group “explicitly confessed to stealing from Qi Card service centers and committing other criminal acts, including the theft of numerous civilian homes in the governorate,” the statement said.

The raid was conducted in coordination with Maysan’s police command.

“The Federal Intelligence and Investigations Agency pledges to remain the watchful eye and the striking hand against anyone who dares to threaten the security and safety of our citizens,” the agency said.

Qi Card is a widely used electronic payment system in Iraq that facilitates the distribution of salaries, pensions, and social welfare benefits. It is managed by the state-run International Smart Card company and allows users to access funds through ATMs, authorized agents, and point-of-sale terminals across the country.
