Al-Sudani highlights continued UN cooperation in a meeting with Guterres
BAGHDAD– Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani met with United Nations Secretary General António Guterres in Baghdad on Sunday to discuss regional developments and joint cooperation between Iraq and the UN. Al-Sudani praised Guterres’ participation in the Arab League Summit and his “clear and steadfast stance in defending the rights of peoples—particularly the Palestinian cause,” according to a statement from the prime minister’s media office.
Al-Sudani said the progress of UN-implemented programs in Iraq, stating they have “reached advanced stages across various sectors,” and reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to continued collaboration to meet development goals and address challenges.

Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani met today, Sunday, with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. António Guterres.
The meeting covered key issues and areas of cooperation between Iraq and the United Nations, as well as efforts to address the latest regional developments.
Prime Minister Al-Sudani expressed his appreciation for Mr. Guterres’ visit to Baghdad and his participation in the Arab Summit, praising his clear and steadfast stance in defending the rights of peoples—particularly the Palestinian cause.
The Prime Minister affirmed the progress of joint programs and projects between Iraq and the United Nations, implemented through its agencies, highlighting that they have reached advanced stages across various sectors. He also reiterated Iraq’s commitment to continued collaboration in pursuit of development goals and addressing challenges.
For his part, Mr. Guterres praised the organization of the Arab Summit in Baghdad and the significant progress the capital has witnessed in construction, development, and infrastructure over the past two years. He affirmed continued support for Iraq’s Arab and regional positions and its role in promoting security and stability. He also noted that he had instructed all major UN agencies to provide full support to the Iraqi government in implementing its development plans and advancing efforts to strengthen Iraq’s security and stability.
