10 million carp released into Haditha Dam to boost fish stocks

ANBAR — Anbar’s Directorate of Agriculture released 10 million juvenile and larval carp into Haditha Dam on Monday as part of an initiative to strengthen fish resources and support local food security.

Officials said the fish were transported from the Al-Suwaira hatchery to Haditha district and released despite dusty weather conditions, which did not affect the process or the health of the fish.

Majed Hameed, director of Haqlaniya subdistrict, told 964media the project was launched “under the guidance of the Minister of Agriculture and the supervision of the Anbar governor,” adding, “we thank them for this valuable effort benefiting residents of the area.”

Saif Hassan Ali, head of the fish division at the Anbar Agriculture Directorate, said the release was coordinated with relevant departments. “The operation aims to support fish stocks, enhance food security for the governorate and the country, and assist fishermen who rely on this trade,” he said.
