Young man presumed drowned after disappearing in Tuz Khurmatu water project

TUZ KHURMATU — A 23-year-old man is presumed drowned after disappearing in the Tuz Khurmatu water project near Yangija village while swimming Wednesday afternoon, according to Khurmatu General Police Director Hussein Ali, who spoke to 964media.

The man, from the Sulaiman Beg subdistrict, reportedly sank during a swim and has not resurfaced. “Locals are now searching for the body using a boat,” Hussein said.

Authorities have detained the young man’s companion after two knives were discovered near the scene, raising suspicions. “Until the body is found and the forensic examination is complete, he will not be released,” Hussein added.

There are no diving or rescue teams in Tuz Khurmatu, and officials have requested assistance from nearby cities to continue the search.
