One dead, seven injured in collision on Dhi Qar-Diwaniyah Road

DIWANIYAH — An Iraqi driver was killed and seven Chinese workers were injured Wednesday in a two-vehicle collision on a highway linking Al-Fajr district in Dhi Qar to Al-Bdeir district in southern Diwaniyah, witnesses told 964media.

The crash occurred near the village of AlBu Sharifa when a Hyundai Accent, reportedly speeding, veered off course and struck a GMC Yukon carrying the workers. The Accent caught fire on impact, killing the driver at the scene.

The injured were taken to Afak General Hospital, with some reported in critical condition.

Local sources said the road has seen repeated accidents due to ongoing and incomplete maintenance work.
