Ministry says staff foiled property document forgery in Baghdad
BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Ministry of Justice said Thursday that staff at the First Karkh Real Estate Registration Directorate prevented an attempt to forge property ownership documents and detained two suspects who posed as the rightful owner during an attempted illegal transfer.
In a statement, the ministry said, “The First Karkh Real Estate Registration Directorate thwarted an attempt to forge documents related to a property within its jurisdiction, and handed the suspects over to the relevant security authorities.”
The suspects were reportedly caught attempting to process the transfer using falsified identity information. Legal action was taken immediately in coordination with security agencies, the statement said.
Justice Minister Khalid Shwani issued a formal letter of appreciation to the staff who uncovered the scheme, praising their “vigilance and professionalism in protecting public assets and countering fraud.”
The ministry said it is working to strengthen verification and documentation procedures at all registration offices to safeguard the integrity of legal processes.
