Dhi Qar university students offer free health screenings during Eid holiday
DHI QAR — Medical students from the National University in Nasiriyah launched a community health initiative at Nasiriyah Park during Eid al-Fitr, offering free medical screenings, health advice, and dental hygiene kits to the public.
The event, organized in one of the city’s busiest public spaces, includes free blood pressure and blood sugar checks, dental exams, and other basic medical tests. Activities will continue through the end of the holiday.
“This is the first time we’re holding a community health event in Nasiriyah Park,” said Afyaa Abdulrazzaq, the event’s supervisor. “We’re offering a variety of services, and the location was chosen because it draws large crowds from across Dhi Qar.”
The initiative also serves as a training opportunity for students. “It gives us real experience interacting with patients,” said medical student Baneen Bashar. “We also ran an oral health campaign, emphasizing how the mouth connects to both the digestive and respiratory systems.”
Supervising doctor Noor Ghanem said the focus is on prevention and early detection. “The goal is to raise awareness and identify potential health issues before they become serious,” she said.
Local resident Karar Ali welcomed the initiative. “I had my blood pressure and blood sugar checked today. It’s a valuable effort, and I hope more universities do the same to support the community.”
