Iraq expresses ‘solidarity’ with South Korea following deadly wildfires
BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs extended condolences to South Korea following deadly wildfires that swept through North Gyeongsang province.
In a statement issued Thursday, the ministry said, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses the solidarity of the Republic of Iraq, government and people, with the friendly Republic of Korea, and extends its sincere condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims who lost their lives as a result of the devastating fires.”
In March 2025, South Korea faced its largest wildfires on record, primarily affecting North Gyeongsang province. The fires resulted in at least 27 fatalities and 32 injuries, leading to the evacuation of approximately 37,000 residents, many of whom remain in temporary shelters.
