Erbil district shuts down two confectionery shops over health violations
ERBIL — The Erbil district administration shut down two confectionery shops on Monday after inspections found unsanitary conditions, officials said.
The closures affected Amer Al‑Hamdani Confectionery in the Runaki neighborhood and Hassan Asal Al‑Hamdaniyah Confectionery on 100 Meter Street. A market inspection committee, operating under the Erbil Central District Administration, discovered expired food products and other hygiene violations during routine checks.
Authorities said the decision to close the shops followed a review of pricing, quality, and adherence to health and cleanliness regulations. In mid‑February, unannounced visits by commercial inspection teams in Erbil led to the closure of 10 food warehouses, the issuance of warnings to four, and the clearance of one facility for compliance.
