Authorities dismantle motorcycle theft gang in Wasit
WASIT — Authorities in Wasit have dismantled a gang specializing in motorcycle theft in the Nu’maniyah district, following a security operation on Monday.
In a statement, police said, “a joint security force from the Nu’maniyah Police Department and the Criminal Investigation Unit arrested three individuals involved in stealing motorcycles, tuk-tuks, and three-wheeled vehicles.”
According to the statement, one suspect tried to use a Kalashnikov rifle during the pursuit, but officers moved quickly to prevent any shots from being fired. The police seized the weapon along with four stolen motorcycles of different models.
After questioning, the suspects confessed to committing multiple thefts, authorities said. They were detained under Article 443 of the Iraqi Penal Code and referred to the judiciary for legal action.
