Soran health crackdown shuts down five medical facilities

SORAN — Health authorities in Erbil’s Soran autonomous administration have closed five medical facilities for failing to comply with official health regulations. The shutdowns, which include clinics, pharmacies, and laboratories, are part of a broader effort to clamp down on unauthorized medical practices and the illegal distribution of drugs.

In a statement released Saturday, the Soran General Health Directorate said inspections were conducted in collaboration with the district’s administrative office, drug control units, security forces, and representatives from the public prosecutor’s office. The inspections uncovered a series of serious violations. One clinic was found storing smuggled medications, while a pharmacy was closed after illegal drugs were discovered on its premises. Additionally, a laboratory was shuttered for operating without a valid license and for facilitating unauthorized access through a direct connection with a neighboring pharmacy.

Health officials warned that any facility found violating regulations could face further penalties, including permanent closure. “We are committed to ensuring that all clinics, pharmacies, and laboratories follow proper health and safety guidelines,” the Soran Health Directorate said in its statement. “Facilities must adhere to regulations when handling medication and using medical equipment for the safety and well-being of citizens.”

Authorities stressed that public health must always come before personal profit. “No one should risk the health of citizens for private gain through illegal activities,” the statement added. “Any facility failing to comply with these guidelines will be shut down immediately and publicly named.”
