Fuel tanker overturns on Said Sadiq-Sharazoor road, killing driver
SULAYMANIYAH — A fuel tanker overturned on the Said Sadiq-Sharazoor road Saturday, killing its driver, local health officials confirmed.
Kamal Saadoun, an emergency official at Shahid Shaukat General Hospital in Said Sadiq, told 964media, “A tanker carrying gas overturned near the village of Saraw, and the driver lost his life.”
The driver, an Iranian national in his 60s, was transported to the hospital, where his body remains pending transfer to Sulaymaniyah’s forensic department.
According to information obtained by 964media, the accident occurred near the Saray Sobhan Agha intersection when the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn. The deceased was of Kurdish ethnicity from Sanandaj, Iran.
Since the suspension of Kurdish oil exports via the Iraq-Turkey Pipeline in March 2023, tanker traffic has seen a marked increase across the region, contributing to road deterioration, congestion, and a rise in traffic accidents.
