Zakho shuts down second store for deceptive discount practices

ZAKHO — Authorities in Zakho have shut down a second store this week for alleged misleading discount practices, according to commercial inspection teams. During an inspection, officials discovered that instead of lowering prices, the establishment raised them by 25% before applying a so-called 50% discount.

“This is the second mall we have closed this week for the same reason,” said Kovan Avdel, head of Zakho’s commercial inspection department, speaking to 964media on Thursday. “At the end of the season and before Ramadan, store owners take advantage of the demand and manipulate prices. That’s why we have shut down this mall for three days, and our inspections will continue.”

On Wednesday, Zakho authorities closed another mall for similar deceptive pricing tactics, where items were sold at inflated prices even after the supposed discount was applied.

Officials have warned businesses that further violations could lead to longer closures and additional penalties.
