Iraqi communist party condemns Trump’s Gaza comments, calling them ‘new crime against humanity’

BAGHDAD — The Iraqi Communist Party has denounced what it called “the direct occupation” of Gaza and the forced displacement of two million Palestinians in response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent comments on “taking over” the Gaza Strip, describing the move as a “crime against humanity” and an escalation of U.S. support for Israel.

In a statement, the party warned that the plan would intensify the suffering in Gaza, accelerate regional instability, and contribute to further Israeli settlement expansion in the West Bank. It also criticized U.S. backing for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s efforts to “redraw the region’s map.”

Earlier this week, U.S. President Donald Trump sparked international outcry by proposing that the United States “take over” the Gaza Strip, suggesting the potential relocation of its approximately two million Palestinians to neighboring countries.

Statement from the Iraqi Communist Party:

In a dangerous escalation of the United States’ absolute support for the Zionist occupation state and war criminal Netanyahu in the genocide war against Gaza and the Palestinian people, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a plan for the direct occupation of the Gaza Strip, imposing permanent ownership over it, and forcibly displacing two million Palestinians from the area.

This new crime against humanity, targeting the Palestinian people through a plan of ethnic cleansing and forced displacement in Gaza, will further exacerbate the suffering caused by genocide and war crimes committed by Israel. It also reveals the Trump administration’s determination to proceed with implementing the so-called “New Middle East” project, its blatant support for Netanyahu’s scheme to “redraw the region’s map,” and its push to resume normalization agreements between Israel and Arab states, particularly Saudi Arabia, while expanding Zionist colonial settlements in the West Bank and threatening to annex parts of it to Israel.

Such a criminal plan will further inflame the already volatile situation in the Middle East. There can be no peace or security in the region without ending the Zionist occupation and enabling the Palestinian people to exercise their right to self-determination, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions, by establishing their independent national state on their homeland with Jerusalem as its capital.

The Iraqi Communist Party strongly condemns the forced displacement and ethnic cleansing plans announced by the U.S. administration and salutes the positions of regional and international states rejecting them. The party calls on Palestinian national forces to strengthen their national unity and end internal divisions, considering it an urgent task and a crucial condition for thwarting the displacement conspiracy and securing victory for the just cause of the Palestinian people.
