Fatal crash in Anbar leaves seven from same family dead
ANBAR – Seven members of the same family died Sunday in a traffic collision on the Ramadi-Rawa Road in Anbar Governorate, officials reported. The crash occurred when a transport truck collided with a pickup vehicle, resulting in the fatalities of those in the pickup.
In a statement, the Anbar Traffic Police cited preliminary investigations, saying, “The incident was caused by excessive speed and the explosion of one of the pickup vehicle’s tires, leading to a loss of control, veering into the opposite direction, and violently colliding with the transport truck.”
Traffic incidents remain a major concern in Iraq. In a separate incident today, a collision in the Al-Sahafiyin neighborhood of Zubair, Basra, left a 10-year-old child dead and his mother seriously injured.
In 2023, Iraq, excluding the Kurdistan Region, reported 11,552 traffic accidents that resulted in 3,019 deaths and 12,314 injuries—a slight increase from 2022, when 11,523 accidents and 3,021 fatalities were recorded. Driver error was responsible for about 79% of the incidents, while vehicle defects and poor road conditions accounted for the remainder.
