Barzani meets with Italian ambassador

KRG PM calls for parliamentary elections and solution to financial issues

ERBIL, October 10 — Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani affirmed on Tuesday the need to hold local parliamentary elections on schedule and resolve outstanding issues, particularly Erbil’s share of the national budget within the framework of the Iraqi Constitution.

The KRG released a statement, which read:

During a meeting between Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and Italian Ambassador to Iraq Maurizio Greganti, both sides exchanged views on the latest developments in Iraq and the region. They also discussed ways to enhance relations between the Kurdistan region and Italy.

The meeting also addressed contentious issues between the Kurdistan region and the federal government, emphasizing the need to resolve problems comprehensively. This includes financial rights for the region within the framework of the constitution and the budget law, ensuring that public-sector employees in the region receive their salaries on par with Iraqi employees who receive their salaries monthly, without any issues.

Also highlighted during the meeting was the importance of holding the Kurdistan region’s parliamentary elections.
