Iraqi oil ministry contains fire at Rumaila facility
BASRA — The Iraqi Ministry of Oil announced Friday that a fire at Tank No. 2 in the fifth gas station (DS5) of north Rumaila, Basra, has been contained. The incident occurred shortly after crude oil was introduced into the recently serviced tank, prompting an immediate response from firefighting teams to prevent extensive damage.
In a statement, the ministry praised the rapid actions of the firefighting and safety crews, noting, “The teams isolated the damaged valve caused by the fire and cooled the adjacent units, which played a major role in containing the situation in record time.”
The Basra Oil Company, which manages the facility, reported, “The fire broke out due to technical reasons that have yet to be determined. As soon as the fire was reported, emergency teams were dispatched to the scene and succeeded in extinguishing it.” BOC confirmed that senior management and technical staff were on-site to oversee the firefighting efforts.
The company assured that no serious injuries were reported and that operations at the station will resume once safety protocols are verified and the damage assessment is complete. “Recommissioning the station will only occur once all safety measures are verified, and an assessment of the impact is complete,” BOC stated.
