Three suspects arrested

Doctor, staff assaulted at Tikrit Teaching Hospital

SALAH AL-DIN — Several people assaulted staff members and a doctor at Tikrit Teaching Hospital on Wednesday, injuring two employees and a doctor, according to hospital director Mohammed Sabah. The Iraqi Medical Syndicate condemned the attack and called for stronger protections for healthcare workers.

“Last night, several individuals attacked two employees and one doctor at our hospital, resulting in injuries,” Sabah told 964media.

He said the individuals became “impatient and dissatisfied with the response time” while accompanying a patient. “The staff and doctors were performing their duties when individuals accompanying a patient became impatient and dissatisfied with the response time. This led to an altercation and the subsequent attack on our personnel.”

Sabah confirmed that two employees and a female doctor were hurt. Three of the assailants were arrested following the incident.

The Salah Al-Din branch of the Iraqi Medical Syndicate called for accountability. “We call for legal action against those responsible and insist on safeguarding the rights of doctors and healthcare workers,” its statement read.

Video footage submitted to 964media appears to show shows individuals shouting, jumping over the reception desk, and physically attacking hospital staff and doctors during the confrontation.
