Baghdad Crime Unit arrests two suspects in $123,000 theft

BAGHDAD — The Baghdad Criminal Investigation Department announced on Saturday the arrest of two suspects involved in the theft of goods valued at 185 million Iraqi dinars (approximately $123,000) in Al-Mahmoudiya, following a precise field tracking operation that led authorities to a rented house where the stolen items were stored.

In a statement, the department said: “Our units successfully apprehended two suspects responsible for stealing goods worth 185 million dinars. The operation was the result of diligent field and technical efforts, leading to the identification and arrest of the perpetrators.”

The theft occurred after a sales representative delivered cosmetic and medical supplies to a warehouse in Al-Mahmoudiya, managed by an individual claiming to be a legitimate trader. The next day, the suspect reportedly transported the goods to an unknown location. Upon receiving the complaint, a special task force was formed to track the suspect.

“Through detailed field surveillance and advanced tracking techniques, our team managed to locate the suspect’s vehicle, identify his identity, and secure an arrest warrant,” the statement explained. Further investigations pinpointed the suspect’s hideout in the Al-Dawoodi area, where he had rented a house to store the stolen merchandise.
