UN special representative and Iraqi president address Syria stability and Iraq challenges
BAGHDAD — Iraqi President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, met with the United Nations Special Representative for Iraq Mohammed Hassan on Sunday to discuss Iraq’s stability, regional developments, and the ongoing situation in Syria, according to a statement from the presidency’s media office.

The President of the Republic, Dr. Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, received the United Nations Secretary-General’s representative in Iraq, Mr. Mohammed Hassan, today, Sunday, December 15, 2024, in Baghdad.
During the meeting, they reviewed the general situation in Iraq as well as recent developments in the regional landscape, particularly the situation in Syria and efforts to reach solutions that ensure Syria’s unity and stability.
The President highlighted the importance of the role played by the international mission in supporting stability and development in Iraq and addressing current challenges.
He also emphasized the significance of the vision of Grand Ayatollah Ali Al-Sistani, in light of the Grand Ayatollah’s conversation with the United Nations Secretary-General’s representative, and His Eminence’s keenness on Iraq’s stability and its distance from regional tensions.
For his part, Mr. Mohammed Hassan affirmed the United Nations’ commitment to sustaining the achievements made in Iraq on both the security and development fronts and striving to enhance them.
