4.5-magnitude earthquake recorded in Salah Al-Din
SALAH AL-DIN — A 4.5-magnitude earthquake struck Salah Al-Din governorate on Thursday evening, with its epicenter located approximately 30 kilometers from the district of Shirqat, the Ministry of Transportation announced.
The Seismological Observatory at the Meteorological Authority reported that the earthquake occurred at 5:20 p.m. at a depth of 10 kilometers beneath the surface. Residents in the area felt the tremor, though no casualties or structural damage have been reported.
In a statement, Salah Al-Din’s Department of Media and Government Communication confirmed the absence of any human or material losses. “The earthquake, measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale, was recorded on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at a depth of 10 kilometers and approximately 30 kilometers away from Shirqat,” the statement read.
The department assured citizens that the situation is being closely monitored and urged residents to remain cautious. “While no damages have been recorded so far, we encourage everyone to stay informed through official channels as we continue to monitor for any potential aftershocks or consequences resulting from the earthquake,” the statement added.
