'We felt deep sorrow'

Iraqi community rallies to support disabled young man in Najaf’s Al-Mishkhab district

BAGHDAD — A recent report by 964media Arabic highlighting the plight of a young Iraqi man named Karar from Al-Mishkhab district in Najaf governorate, who longed for a wheelchair, has sparked widespread humanitarian response. The story detailed how Ali Al-Waeli, a census employee, secured a wheelchair for Karar and addressed his family’s needs, prompting numerous individuals to reach out to Al-Waeli to offer assistance.

Among those moved by the report was an Iraqi family residing in Sweden. Upon learning of the family’s circumstances, they discovered additional necessities, including a refrigerator, and promptly arranged for financial support to be sent.

The initiative has attracted further contributions, with donors providing food supplies, clothing, and household items.

“When we saw the 964 media report, we felt deep sorrow,” said Basim Al-Aboudi, an Iraqi expatriate in Sweden, speaking to 964media. “We, as expats in Sweden, decided to collect donations and transfer funds to Iraq to meet the family’s needs.”
