Eight separate fires
Suspected arson strikes Soran’s Zozik Mountains
SORAN – In a span of a few hours this evening, eight separate fires were reported along Hamilton Road in the Zozik Mountain area, according to local firefighting authorities. The fires have affected large areas of vegetation and numerous aged trees in proximity to the villages of Berzewa and Hware Kon, raising suspicions of deliberate arson.
Rewan Hawdiani, a spokesperson for Soran’s municipal fire department, informed 964media that five firefighting teams were deployed and are nearing full containment of the blazes. “We have reasons to believe these fires may have been started intentionally. However, it’s currently under investigation, and we will disclose the findings to the public upon completion,” Hawdiani stated.
Among the impacted locations are the outskirts of Rawanduz, near the Rawanduz Polytechnic College, Nawkelan, Berzewa, Zozik Mountain, and the September New Bridges area, with two of the fires described as large.
This incident comes two years after another significant fire in the Zozik Mountain, which took over 24 hours to extinguish.
