Alleged dispute over fishing leads to fatal shootout in Basra

BASRA — A dispute between two fishermen over fishing rights turned deadly when it escalated into a shootout near the pumps in the Rumaila oil field area, west of Basra, resulting in the deaths of both men involved.

A security source told 964media, “The shootout left both men with severe injuries. One succumbed to his wounds upon arrival at the Rumaila health center, while the second died later from his injuries.”

Local police in the Rumaila oil field area have launched an investigation into the incident. They have detained the brother of the first deceased man for questioning.
