14-year-old boy killed by 16-year-old cousin in Basra

BASRA — A 14-year-old boy was ‘accidentally killed’ by a Kalashnikov rifle held by his 16-year-old cousin on Thursday in eastern Basra’s Shatt Al-Arab district, authorities said.

Initial investigations indicate the firearm was discharged accidentally inside the home, striking the victim in the head and causing instant death.

According to a security source speaking to 964media, the victim, Mahmoud Mohammed, was killed by a weapon handled by his cousin.

Local police arrived at the scene and launched an investigation to determine the circumstances of the incident.

The suspect was arrested, and the weapon, along with ammunition and 28 bullets, was confiscated.
