Digital payment with no staff intervention
Iraq introduces automated gas stations
BAGHDAD – The Oil Products Distribution Company has begun a pilot program for automatic fuel dispensing at the Al-Muthanna station in Baghdad, allowing for transactions without clerk intervention.
Customers can input their desired fuel amount into a Point of Sale (POS) device, which then electronically deducts the necessary payment.
Hussein Talib, the company’s general manager, told 964media, “Since April 2023, we’ve been running an electronic payment pilot, overcoming various challenges and hurdles in collaboration with the Central Bank and authorized gateways.”
He further noted that the Al-Muthanna station’s trial aims to remove the need for human interaction in the fuel dispensing process. By connecting fuel dispensers to the POS system, customers can specify fuel amounts and complete payments electronically, streamlining the process and enhancing efficiency.
