Government facilitates voluntary return of Yezidis to Sinjar

BAGHDAD, August 12 — Iraq’s Ministry of Migration and Displacement announced on Friday the voluntary return of 293 Yezidi individuals from displacement camps in Dohuk to Sinjar district, as part of the ministry’s efforts to resolve the country’s ongoing displacement concerns.

A statement from the Ministry read:

The Minister of Migration and Displacement, Mrs. Iqan Fa’eq Jabro, announced the voluntary return of 293 Yezidi displaced individuals from displacement camps in Dohuk to their original areas of residence in Sinjar district, Nineveh province, as part of the Ministry’s plan to conclude the displacement issue in the country.

She emphasized that the process of transferring the displaced families was carried out smoothly in high coordination with relevant security agencies and local governments, without encountering any notable issues. Furthermore, the Ministry’s personnel have been directed to continue monitoring the situations of the returning families and swiftly meet their needs in collaboration with relief organizations and relevant entities.

Mrs. Jabro affirmed that the ministry remains committed to registering displaced families who wish to return voluntarily from all displacement camps located in the Kurdistan region, and to addressing all obstacles preventing the rest of the country’s displaced individuals from returning to their original areas of residence.
